Research Paper Checklist
Research Paper Checklist A 1. Is my thesis statement concise and clear?
2. Did I follow my outline? Did I miss anything?
3. Are my arguments presented in a logical sequence?
4. Are all sources properly cited to ensure that I am not plagiarizing?
5. Have I proved my thesis with strong supporting arguments?
6. Have I made my intentions and points clear in the essay?
Re-read your paper for grammatical errors. Use a dictionary or a thesaurus as needed. Do a spell-check. Correct all errors that you can spot and improve the overall quality of the paper to the best of your ability. Get someone else to read it over. Sometimes a second pair of eyes can see mistakes that you missed.

7. Any spelling or grammatical errors?

As you write your research paper use the checklist below. When you are finished with your paper, go over the checklist again with a friend so as to make sure nothing is missed out.
Research Paper Checklist C
- All pages are typed, double space.
- 12 font of Courier, Times New Roman or Arial.
- Title page includes, project title, your full name, school, grade,
homeroom teacher, due date (10/5/05).
- Acknowledgements (a separate page).
- Introduction (a separate page 1/2 - 1 page in length).
- Background research (a separate page 1 1/2 - 2 pages in length).
- Bibliography (a separate page 1 page in length) containing at least 4 sources using proper
citation. Refer to MLA Style Bibliography page, just before page 1, in the agenda book.
Research Paper Checklist D
- Research Paper is the minimum length of six full pages of text, excluding the works cited and outline pages; with 1” margins, left justification, and double spacing throughout, including set-off quotations; there is no extra double spacing before or after my title or between paragraphs. The Works Cited page is also double spaced throughout.
- Research Paper is complete and put together correctly: essay, works cited page, and outline in that order, all paginated correctly in the upper right corner with headers and with page breaks between the text, the works cited page, and the outline. I have a full and correct heading on the first page. (Review the Essay Format instructions).
- I have the minimum six sources, including three scholarly journal articles and the primary work if I am doing a critical analysis. I did not use plot summaries, encyclopedias, reference works, and inappropriate Internet sites. The sources are set up correctly on the Works Cited Page -- alphabetically by authors' last names or titles of articles if no authors are assigned, following strict MLA format; no numbering of the entries. (See the assignment, the MLA, and "MLA Tips").
- I have quoted all the sources on my Works Cited Page within the paper, carefully incorporating quotations in quotation marks without run-ons or comma splices, and documenting correctly with authors' last names or with the first major word of the title when no author is assigned and the page number in parentheses with the period after.
- I have documented all background information with the sources, even if in my own words: this includes historical, biographical, and statistical information.
- I have not threaded any word-for-word passages from sources into my essay without documentation.
- If I am doing a critical analysis or critical biography, I have quoted from the author as my primary source and remembered to keep his or her purpose or importance firmly in front of the reader. I have not written a plot summary.
- I have double checked all my sources, removing any on the Works Cited page that I did not use in the paper, but making sure I have my minimum sources. There are no citations within the paper that are not sources on the Works Cited page. I made sure the names on the works cited page are spelled correctly in the documentation. All the sources can be verified by my instructor.
- I have a good introduction and a strong thesis, which I develop throughout the essay.
- I have good topic and closing sentences -- they are my own and not quotations from sources which I've used as support of my points. I have good transition between and within paragraphs. All my paragraphs are well developed.
- I have a strong conclusion that leaves the reader with a sense of closure to my essay.
- If I am writing a critical analysis, I analyze the work in present tense; if I refer to the author's biography and time period, I use past tense.
- I have paid attention to the instructor's comments on the pre-writing and made suggested corrections.
- I did not try to write this paper in a rush, but allowed myself time to catch errors. I have spent time editing for major errors in mechanics and oversights in polish; I especially reviewed for comma splices, run-ons, fragments and other common but major problems that could undercut my essay. I used Hacker and the grammar tips provided in the eClassroom to assist me.
- I saved the essay with a clear file name, including my full name first so that my instructor can save essays by student names on her computer. I double checked the file I uploaded to make sure it was the correct version of the completed paper.
- I have respected all the requirements for the research paper, and I have submitted the paper on time.
